How to make Chana Dal Halwa
  • Wash and soak chana dal in enough water for about 6 to 7 hours or you can soak the dal overnight also. Once the dal is soaked, drain the excess water completely. Then roughly chop the almonds for garnishing and put them aside.After removing the extra water from the dal, transfer it to a mixer jar and grind it to a coarse mixture. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and keep aside till required.

    Now put a pan on medium flame and heat ghee in it. Once the ghee has melted, add the ground chana dal in the pan and mix well. Roast the dal mixture till the raw smell goes off completely. Turn off the flame when the dal has roasted completely.

    Then put a deep-bottomed pan on medium flame and add milk in it, bring it to a boil. After a boil, reduce the flame to low and add the roasted dal mixture. Keep stirring while you add the dal mixture, in order to avoid lumps.

    Lower the flame and cook the dal mixture till the entire milk gets absorbed and the moisture goes off completely.

    Next add sugar, green cardamom powder, and mix well. The mixture will become slightly thin. Keep stirring and cook on low-medium flame till the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan.

    The halwa is now ready, garnish with chopped almonds and serve hot. You can also add nuts of your choice for a nutty flavour. Enjoy!
